Marathon Fund Raising

Created: Sun, Aug 19, 2001, 11:30 PM

Note: I plan to spruce this up a bit with pictures, links, etc. -- perhaps a way to take online donations, too, such as PayPal?

Target goal: $4,000
Current total: $0.00 (as of 8/19/2001) -- hey, I just got started!

.....

I need your help! I've taken on a personal challenge to run a marathon for charity (that's 26.2 miles, folks!) . I've run one marathon before, however this time I decided to make a difference by using my act of lunacy as a way to raise money for a good cause.

Anyone who knows me will agree that stubbornness and determination are both qualities that I've been generously endowed with. I'm 100% committed to run the full 26.2 miles, even if I have to drag myself by my teeth over the finish line -- but I need your help to make it happen!

In order to finish the marathon, I need to raise at least my target goal of $4,000 for the Arthritis Foundation. "Arthritis" is a broad term that essentially means any form of debilitating joint pain. Over 43 million Americans suffer with Arthritis in one form or another right now, and the odds are good that at some point in your life, you will too.

Your tax-deductible contribution to the Arthritis Foundation will not only help get me across the finish line, but more importantly, it'll go towards research to help find a cure for Arthritis. Some typical donation amounts are:

 $1/mile: $26.20
 $2/mile: $52.40
 $5/mile: $131.00
$10/mile: $262.00
...or you can make the donation out for any amount you choose to -- anything and everything is greatly appreciated! All donations should be made payable to the Arthritis Foundation, and if you can't give the check to me in person, should be mailed to:

Thanks for your help! If you're planning to donate, do it now before you forget!

The marathon I am running is the Honolulu Marathon -- the third largest in the world, with over 25,000 people likely to enter this year. The marathon takes place on December 9th, 2001, and I'm already 3 weeks into my training for it. If you live around Rochester, odds are pretty good that you'll see me sweating and gasping for breath at one point or another over the next few months as I prepare myself for this physical and mental challenge.

I've set up a web page that tracks my training progress, and also has more information on Arthritis, as well as the Honolulu marathon. Check it out:

When I finish the marathon, I'll put pictures and war stories up on the page as well! Feel free to pass this on to anyone who might be interested in participating, and thanks again for your help!
